Salt of the earth

In today’s culture, they say you stay relevant and successful by reflecting the value of the society you are in. Unfortunately, it has become common knowledge that this secular principle is spreading in the church like wildfire. It is consuming anything in its path, including the foundational ideologies and moral codes, fashioned from the eternal truth of the gospel of Christ.

It is believed that somewhere around the 19th and 20th century, churches began to focus more on societal transformation. Although that is considered noble, the problem is that it is as though it is elevated more than the building-up of the church. This is so problematic that in our day, it has jeopardised the sanctity of the church. We believe the church should be the salt of the earth. But if the salt loses its savor, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled (Matthew 5:13). If you set out to influence someone else to drop their bad behaviour and take up your noble values, you must learn to maintain those noble values. Short of that, you may find yourself wallowing in sin. Just like in 1 Peter 1:14, do not be conformed to the passions of your former ignorance.
